Monday Inspiration: Unique Table Centrepieces

30 Jan

So Monday is here yet again and to beat my Monday morning blues, I thought I would compile some photos of unique centrepiece ideas that I just love. Hopefully this will brighten your morning like it did mine!

1. I have featured this image before on the blog. The master Preston Bailey features this fabulous DIY Centrepiece idea on his blog.

2. For the lover of candles, why not try this fabulous idea as featured on Martha Stewart Weddings. Achieve an eye catching centrepiece using different sized pillar candles. Your options are endless and would suit any colour choice.

3. For something a little bit more personal, why not try photo jars. This is a fab DIY idea, and the look can be achieved with various sized jars. This one has also been feautred on Preston’s blog.

4. If you have gone down the path of an eco friendly wedding, I just love the thought of a pot/basket of fresh herbs as a centrepiece. Imagine the smell! They can also be reused or gifted after the wedding.

5. If you are after something a little more ‘old-fashioned’ and happen to have a whole pile of old tea tins lying around the house (or can get your hands on plenty), fill them with beautiful flowers and there you have it, a charming centrepiece!

Tangerine Tango

9 Jan

I know I am a bit behind on the press release of Pantone’s ‘Top Color of 2012’, but I am super excited about the choice from the Pantone Color Institute.  Tangerine Tango is a vivid, bold re-orange colour.

I imagine that Tangerine Tango will be a huge hit in the wedding and fashion industry, with the colour already popping up in Spring runway shows all over the world.  In a statement released by the Executive Director of Pantone’s Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, she describes Tangerine Tango as “hopeful and optimistic,” marrying the “vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow.” Orange traditionally signals not only vitality, but also urgency and strength.

This colour is hot, hot, hot – I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store!  Indulge yourself in some inspiration below….

Rain, Rain Go Away?

30 Aug

The recent week of rain in Brisbane has prompted my blog for today. It is believed in some cultures that rain on your wedding day is good luck. It is suggested that it can represent cleansing or building a stronger unity in marriage. It comes mainly from the Hindu culture, with the idea that a wet knot is harder to untie – hence why marriage is often referred to as tying the knot! Rain is also a symbol of fertility in agricultural societies – rain restores and maintains the wellness of crops. Crops were people’s main source of stability and income so it was thought to guarantee a long happy marriage!

So if it looks like it is going to rain on your wedding day, don’t stress! Embrace the rain! Here are a few tips to help you be prepared for a rainy wedding day, no matter what Mother Nature throws at you!

  • Umbrellas– not only do they stop you from getting wet, they will also make for some stunning photographs! If it looks like rain a few days out, try colour coordinating them to the theme of your wedding.
  • Appropriate Footwear – If your wedding is outdoors, or you intend on venturing out during the rain, heels and wet grass/mud do not work. Invest in a spare pair of covered in flats (it doesn’t matter what they look like, no one will see them under your dress!) This will ensure your heels don’t get ruined. It doesn’t hurt for you and your bridesmaids to pack a spare pair just in case your wedding shoes get ruined – remember you will have to wear them for the rest of the day/night. Alternatively you could try;
  • Gumboots – What a great way to get some cute photos! They are also practical!
  • Never underestimate the power of a Shower Cap – Yes, it may look ridiculous, but a shower cap will stop your hair from getting wrecked. Try to ensure it isn’t too tight.
  • Water Spots – Try not to stress if you get water drops on your dress – they shouldn’t show up in your photographs.
  • Outdoor Ceremonies – If any part of your wedding including the photos are to be outside, ensure you are just as happy with the wet weather alternatives supplied by your venue. It could also be a good idea to invest in some umbrellas for your guests if your budget permits.

Last but not least, please ensure you bring your sense of humour. This is a must have rain, hail or shine! Nothing should ‘dampen’ your spirits. Remember-your wedding day will be what you make it regardless of the weather!
