Rain, Rain Go Away?

30 Aug

The recent week of rain in Brisbane has prompted my blog for today. It is believed in some cultures that rain on your wedding day is good luck. It is suggested that it can represent cleansing or building a stronger unity in marriage. It comes mainly from the Hindu culture, with the idea that a wet knot is harder to untie – hence why marriage is often referred to as tying the knot! Rain is also a symbol of fertility in agricultural societies – rain restores and maintains the wellness of crops. Crops were people’s main source of stability and income so it was thought to guarantee a long happy marriage!

So if it looks like it is going to rain on your wedding day, don’t stress! Embrace the rain! Here are a few tips to help you be prepared for a rainy wedding day, no matter what Mother Nature throws at you!

  • Umbrellas– not only do they stop you from getting wet, they will also make for some stunning photographs! If it looks like rain a few days out, try colour coordinating them to the theme of your wedding.
  • Appropriate Footwear – If your wedding is outdoors, or you intend on venturing out during the rain, heels and wet grass/mud do not work. Invest in a spare pair of covered in flats (it doesn’t matter what they look like, no one will see them under your dress!) This will ensure your heels don’t get ruined. It doesn’t hurt for you and your bridesmaids to pack a spare pair just in case your wedding shoes get ruined – remember you will have to wear them for the rest of the day/night. Alternatively you could try;
  • Gumboots – What a great way to get some cute photos! They are also practical!
  • Never underestimate the power of a Shower Cap – Yes, it may look ridiculous, but a shower cap will stop your hair from getting wrecked. Try to ensure it isn’t too tight.
  • Water Spots – Try not to stress if you get water drops on your dress – they shouldn’t show up in your photographs.
  • Outdoor Ceremonies – If any part of your wedding including the photos are to be outside, ensure you are just as happy with the wet weather alternatives supplied by your venue. It could also be a good idea to invest in some umbrellas for your guests if your budget permits.

Last but not least, please ensure you bring your sense of humour. This is a must have rain, hail or shine! Nothing should ‘dampen’ your spirits. Remember-your wedding day will be what you make it regardless of the weather!

Vera Wang – Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Gown Sketches

26 Aug

Vera Wang has released images of the initial sketches and designs for all 3 of  Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Gowns. I am dying to see a full length picture of Kim in her dress.  The first sketch is my favourite design, Vera Wang describes it as an “Ivory ballgown with full tulle skirt, basque waist, and hand-pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on bodice and train. I am sure that Kim Kardashian pulled off wearing all 3 of these designs. Stay posted though..as soon as there are photos online, I plan on doing a full recap of the Humphries – Kardashian nuptials!

Counterfeit Wedding Gowns Online

25 Aug

One of my lovely readers brought my attention to an article that was posted recently on Bridal Guide, which is the online complement to New York based Bridal Guide Magazine. After reading the article I thought is still held some merit given that brides for many reasons may choose to purchase their dream wedding gown online, whether it be from an Australian or overseas based company.

American dress designer Mori Lee has warned brides against buying designer gowns online from non authorised retailers. It seems that many online stores worldwide are selling counterfeit gowns, usually for a much lower price, and you guessed it, the quality of the dress is nowhere near to the quality of the original design. What makes matters worse is the fact that often these online stores don’t stand behind the products they sell and if there are any problems with the quality of design, they are reluctant to help!

So in the end, what does this mean for you? To avoid disappointment – do your research! If you choose to purchase your gown online and it looks to be the “real deal” ensure the company is an authorised retailer of what ever designer gown you are intending to buy.
