Melbourne Cup – the race that stops the nation! My sister and I were lucky enough to spend Melbourne Cup Day at Eagle Farm Race Course, courtesy of Runway Express Experience. The day started with a bottle of Moet at 10.00am while we eagerly tried to recreate our makeup looks from the weekend (not sure that alcohol while applying makeup is a great idea, but it worked out ok)!
On arrival to the race track, our members tickets were almost thrown out by an overly excited Ticketek employee. After we politely advised that these were ‘Members for a Day’ tickets, they were rescued from the bin and we eagerly made our way to the members stand. The Members stand was all class – real toilets…no port-a-loos and champagne served in glass not plastic! After a few drinks we decided it was time to try our luck with placing a few bets. With much confusion we placed our bets, and made our way to the stands to watch our first couple of races. Unfortunately I was not so lucky with my horse, but Kell managed to win her money back – all hope was not lost!

After collecting the winnings, we managed to catch the last of the entrants into the ‘Myer Fashions on the Field’ Show, where we managed to catch up with a work colleague of mine who had entered the competition. A big congratulations to Stephanie who placed 3rd overall! Some of the outfits (and fascinators) were definitely out there, but you couldn’t half tell colour blocking was the spring racing trend. The Priceline tent also took our fancy – for a small donation, you could pick up some fabulous makeup products…we visited and donated twice! We took the opportunity to get our photo taken as many times as we could, which wasn’t too hard, as there were plenty of photographers out and about!

Before we knew it was 2:00pm and the big race was about to start. Just about every person at the race track must have been in front of the big screen, yelling and screaming, hoping their horse was going to pull through and pay off. When the race was over, we still had no idea who had won as we couldn’t read or hear the massive TV! We continued on drinking into the afternoon until our feet finally decided it was time to go home.
Our first proper day at the races was an absolute blast, and we really need to say a very big thank you to Abbey from Runway Express Experience, the makeup lesson was amazing, and Kell and I were confident enough in being able to recreate our looks. If you are looking for a new look, or stuck with the basics, I can highly, highly recommend a Runway Express Experience for yourself and your friends! The Champagne, the tan, the fascinator, the day – everything was perfect!!!
